New Roofing & Cladding
Compare new roofing and cladding options, materials, design considerations, warranties and the steps involved in planning a new roof with Roofbuddy.
Roofing can be done in all sorts of different materials and Roofbuddy offers every type of roofing material through our diverse marketplace of roofers nationwide. We offer a consultative service and will talk you through all the options, prices, warranties & aesthetics to help you decide what roofing best suits your property overall.
Your new house needs to withstand the elements for decades to come. Most roofing products we recommend give you the assurance of a 30 year perforation (structural) warranty, 18 years on the paint and galvanisation and between 5-10 years on the workmanship from the service provider.
Typically for a new build the builder will be responsible for scaffolding & access & building the entire structure (substrate) that the roof sits on. From there the roofer would be responsible for installing netting (if required), paper and roofing material on top including flashings and all of the penetrations through roof for pipes and sky lights etc. In simple terms the builders work with the wood and the roofers work with the metal or tiles.
Timeframes for roofing vary job to job and can range between 1 week to 6 weeks depending on size and complexity; job progress is also weather dependent. The roof will be installed after the substrate (purlins are installed) and prior to the internal fittings and electrics being installed inside. We recommend giving your roofer as much notice as possible and confirming the job early so they can lock the job into their schedule and avoid unnecessary project delays.
Every roofing business must have a Licensed Building Practitioner associated with its account, verified against the MBIE public register at onboarding. After that, we monitor performance through quality assurance outcomes and verified homeowner reviews on every job. Re-roofing carries no licensing requirement in New Zealand. We check anyway. We advise customers to opt for the comprehensive third-party quality assurance (QA) check, prior to final payment to ensure the work is assessed by an independent third party.
